Candles made by riot-hit people launched

Imphal, June 28 2023:
Thoubal deputy commissioner A Subhash Singh on Wednesday launched a candle branded "Yenning Candles" made by people displaced due to the ethnic violence and staying at the Kodompokpi Sports Complex relief centre at Wang-jing in Thoubal district.
With an aim to make the inmates at different relief camps in Thoubal district financially self-reliant, the district administration in collaboration with Kri-shi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Thoubal has been conducting various skill development programmes.
The district administration in collaboration with KVK has been imparting various skill development activities targeting towards income generation of the inmates.
The training programmes were led by jenior scientist Dr S Zeshmarani, who is also KVK Thoubal head, and KVK Thoubal Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science) RK Lembis-ana under the supervision of the deputy commissioner.
Training and activities provided to the inmates include awareness programme, demonstration and hands-on training.
In food processing category, pickle and candy making of mango and pineapple are under process along with mushroom cultivation.
Incense sticks/ Agarbatti made by the inmates will also be marketed soon.
The raw materials are provided by the district administration and KVK.
During the launch programme, DC Subhash expressed elation on success of the candle making programme and encouraged the inmates and the officials of Thoubal district to continue with their hard work.
Around 480 inmates are taking shelter at Kodom-pokpi Sports Complex relief centre.
The candles launched Wednesday are priced at Rs 30, Rs 15 and Rs 10 per packet.
