Imphal, June 28 2023:
Protesting the assault of two women at Sabungkhok on June 23, Unity Khurai Meira Lup has called a 12-hour bandh in Khurai area tomorrow from 6 am to 6 pm.
A sit-in was staged today at Tinsid road protesting the assault of the two innocent women.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, one Ngangom Ibemcha said the incident at Sabungkhok was very condemnable.
The two women were not only assaulted but also victimised by levelling unfounded charges.
Not only this, properties of the Khurai AC MLA who came to the rescue of the two women, were also razed to the ground despite the innocence of the two women being proven at the spot itself and brought to safety, she said.
"The lup understands that a bandh at such a perilous time is untimely but the call for bandh was put forth considering the fact that the prestige of the two women cannot be undermined," she said.
The people of Sabungkhok have so far not come out with a proper response and claimed to have no link with the incident.
The bandh was called in view of their denial of any hand in the assault and the matter-whether they were part of the assault or mere spectators when the women were manhandled, remaining unsolved, she said.
Movements of Muslim community will however be allowed during the bandh period in view of the Id-ul-Zuha festival tomorrow, she continued.
