Imphal, July 22 2023:
Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State has demanded the government to convene special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and take a resolution to protect the territory of the state.
The party also asked the MLAs to resign if they cannot take such a stand.
Addressing a press conference at the party's Irawat Bhawan office here on Saturday, CPI executive member RK Amusana demanded the government to take the opposition into confidence in measures to save Manipur.
People of the state are ready to protect the boundary etched by the blood of the forefather and the government should convene a special session to take a resolution to protect the state while understanding the public sentiment.
Holding a special session will bring out who wants to save Manipur or not.
Unless the MLAs could not take such a stand considering the gravity of the situation, they should give up membership of the assembly, he suggested.
Amusana also criticised the Modi government for adjourning the Parliament session for simply demanding a discussion on Manipur issue while asking if BJP has some secret agenda behind the whole crisis.
He also condemned PM Modi for his selective response on the Manipur violence by pinpointing a single incident while ignoring the crux of the crisis.
It is highly condemnable how the PM highlighted the Manipuri society as a barbaric society by virtue of a single unwanted incident, the executive member said and called for strict action against the perpetrators of the crime as well as those inhumane murder of innocent lives in the violence.
He also condemned union home minister Amit Shah for remaining silent after visiting the state for three days.
All Manipur Nupi Marup president M Sakhi also condemned the selective response of Prime Minister and refusal of the ruling party to discuss Manipur issue in the Parliament.
Out of the 60 MLAs, 10 had taken their stand to disintegrate Manipur.
The remaining 50 enjoy the majority of the House and as such, the government should convene a special session of the state assembly to take a resolution to protect Manipur and submit the same to the Centre, he reiterated.
