Thoubal, July 22 2023:
Locals of Nongpok Sekmai have refuted that the recent viral video of parading two women naked did not occur in Nongpok Sekmai but in a neighbouring Kuki village.
The locals expressed discontentment that the misinformation which has circulated in media platforms has tarnished the image of the village globally.
In this regard, a protest demonstration was staged today at the front of North Eastern Sporting Association (NESA) Nongpok Sekmai office attended by members of Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Nongpok Sekmai and locals.
Addressing the gathering, NESA vice-president Longjam Bhushan clarified that the tragic and disgraceful incident happened in a neighbouring Kuki village and not in Nongpok Sekmai as wrongly portrayed.
He further raised the question why the State Government has failed to book all who have meted out atrocities upon the Meiteis just like the speedy measures taken up against the perpetrators of the viral video incident.
'Why Chief Minister N Biren Singh has not staged a protest against the gross violence against the Meiteis like he did for the viral incident', Bhushan questioned.
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi breaking silence on the Manipur crisis which has been going on for more than 75 days, Bhushan raised suspicion why he broke his silence based on a single event sidelining numerous crimes like killings, arson etc committed on Meiteis.
'We condemn such biased acts of the Prime Minister which are intended to put Meiteis in the wrong light based on one event ignoring the plights which we have been facing for more than two months', he lamented.
He also appealed to all to act in unison and urge the Prime Minister to bring an end to the mayhem in the State since he took cognizance of the crisis though through just one event.
Many Meira Paibis and locals also spoke against the biased attitude of the Central and State Government with regards to the crisis in the State.
