Imphal, July 22 2023:
Taking a swipe at the Prime Manipur for his fragmentary statement on Manipur violence, the State unit of Yuva Janata Dal (United) has asked if Narendra Modi has been appointed as the spokesperson of Kukis.
The Yuva JD (U) further stated that the Prime Minister skipping all other major issues while making comment on the naked parade of two Kuki women seems biased as there were many other instances of violation of human rights after the ethnic conflict broke out on May 3 .
Addressing the media at Palace Compound today, Yuva JD (U) State unit president Bhaktaraj Thiyam said that Meitei is an ethnic group which uphold and respect the dignity of women in the highest manner .
Saying that they condemn the atrocity meted out to two women who were paraded naked after disrobing them by a group of Meitei people, he demanded that all mobsters involved in the horrific crime must be booked and deliver justice to the victims.
Bhaktaraj, however, said that the Prime Minister not mentioning anything about the killing, displacement and other forms of violence taking place in Manipur while giving his comment on the naked parade is unfortunate.
He also asked if the Prime Minister have a hidden agenda on Manipur violence or was waiting for the clip of the naked parade to surface to break his silence.
Is the suffering being faced by the Meiteis due the aggression and onslaught of Kuki militants not worthy enough to draw the attention of the Prime Minister, he asked.
The leader of the Nation shouldn't take sides and treat all the citizens equally, Bhaktaraj said and added that the statement of the Prime Minister, however, seems more like he has been appointed as the spokesperson of Kukis.
