Imphal, July 22 2023:
Janata Dai-United Manipur has expressed dissatisfaction over selective response of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while ignoring the core issue for the ethnic violence in the state, and demanded the Central government to take up firm action to curb the violence and restore peace in Manipur.
Addressing a press meet at the party's office here on Saturday, JD-U state president Bhaktaraj Thiyam said that the party strongly con-, demn any form of violence against women.
The incident of naked parading of two women is no exception and the party is demanding stringent action against the perpetrators.
Although, the response of Prime Minister Modi over the incident is welcomed, the party is not happy with his selective response by ignoring the core issue.
His response is unbecoming of a leader of the nation, he said.
JD-U general secretary L Bhaskar said that the government should take up stringent measures to prevent similar crimes in future.
However, the selective response of PM Modi has hurt the sentiment of the people, who have been pleading for nearly three months to end the violence and restore peace, he said while demanding the PM to take up affirmative actions to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Meanwhile, Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meira Lup (KANGLAMEI) condemned atrocities and crimes committed against women and regretted that PM Narendra Modi sidelining atrocities by Kukis on Meitei community amounts to humiliating the
Meiteis in before the global fraternity.
Addressing media persons at its Lamphel office, KANGLAMEI president Yumnam Leirikleima lamented that the government of India has failed to notice the grievances of the Meitei community.
The attitude and remarks of PM Modi is equivalent to demonising the Meitei community as he undermined crux of the crisis in Manipur and referred to only the viral video of naked parading of the two women thereby implying centre's covert support to the Chin-Kuki terrorists.
As the government has not taken up any notable actions against the Kuki militants inspite of clear evidence of violation of SoO ground, it could be safely stated that the government of India is supporting the Kuki terrorists, she asserted.
