Imphal, July 22 2023:
Several organisations, while questioning the sudden break of the stoic silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the timing of the recent video going viral, have urged the PM to be impartial in solving the prevailing crisis in Manipur.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here Friday, Keishamthong Ward no.9 Apunba Meira Paibi Lup 10 convenor Ksh Anita questioned why the video of the two women being paraded naked, which is highly con-demnable, suddenly went viral on various social media platforms just one-day before the session of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on July 20 .
She further questioned why the PM suddenly broke his silence when the violence has been raging in the state for over two months, leaving many dead and injured and thousands displaced.
Wondering if any hidden agenda is at play, the convenor urged for coming up with a long-term solution to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
She also demanded for arrest and strict punishment of the remaining culprits involved in the assault of the two women.
Anita continued that the incident occurred in the beginning of the conflict but was kept hidden for a long time.
Claiming that the situation worsened due to failure by the state government to take action in time, consequently making the people suffer due to imposition of curfew, she also urged the government to help trace the whereabouts of a teenage girl.
On the other hand, Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) convenor Ch Meghachandra denounced PM Modi for speaking about the viral video of the women but continuing to ignore the atrocities suffered by Meitei women and children at the hands of narco terrorists till date.
Speaking at a press meet held at Kyamgei Khagem ba Macha bungo Laibung on Friday, Meghachandra strongly condemned the dehumanising act on two women on May 4, the video of which is now viral.
He further condemned any form of crime against women and demanded strict punishment to be awarded to the culprits.
However, PM Modi should also know and speak about the atrocities committed on Meitei women by the narco-terrorists.
If action is to be taken, it should be against both sides including thor-' ough investigation, without any partiality or bias, he asserted.
He then said that state CSOs and Meira Paibis should work together under the same banner, while also stressing the need for investigating the current situation of the illegal poppy plantations in the hills.
