Tiddim road blocked to protest arrest

Imphal, July 22 2023:
People residing on both sides of Tiddim road in Ghari area launched road blockade stir against judicial remand of 21 people arrested in connection with the torching of the official car of IG (intelligence) K Kabib on July 19 evening at Kwakeithel.
Police arrested a total of 30 persons suspected to be involved in the vandalism but nine including four juveniles were re-leased while 21 were sent to judicial custody.
Against the granting of judicial remand of remaining suspects, people came out and blocked Tiddim road at Ghari from 9am Saturday.

about the road block agi tation, large number police led by jmphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha and RAF personnel rushed to the area and talked with the protestors to end the agitation.
However, as no understanding could be brought around the police used tear gas shells to disperse the protestors.
To prevent unwanted incident, additional security personnel have been deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, Uripok Achom Leikai Nupi Lup president Shamulailatpam Modhubala, on behalf of mothers of the arrested people, demanded unconditional release of the 21 jailed protesters.
Speaking to media persons with regard to arrest made for burning the police vehicle on July 17, Modhubala pointed out the said people were not arrested from the incident site but from different areas and charged them with torching the vehicle.
Stating that the detained persons are innocent citizens, she urged for their release without any condition.
