Imphal, April 25 2010:
All Manipur Inter-State Bus Association has urged the State Government and the agitating All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) to bring an amicable solution at the earliest so that the ongoing indefinite highways blockade may be suspended.
Speaking in a press conference held at its office at North AOC today, association President Athokpam Budha Luwang pointed out that the prolonged blockade has greatly inconvenienced the general public.
Saying that the association has been demanding that the State Government provide highway protection force, the President expressed dissatisfaction that the Government is not paying any attention towards this.
Although a ruling of the Supreme Court has banned bandh and blockade on National Highways, the State Government is unable to take up any action in this regard, the President said.
He added that these frequent bandhs and blockades imposed along the highways give different hardships to various communities of the State.
Maintaining that the inter-State passenger buses operating along Imphal-Guwahati and Imphal-Jiribam routes do not have any connection with the State Government, the President also urged the protesters to exempt these vehicles from the purview of the blockade.
