Family of Mahakabi Hijam Anganghal in association with Tungee Yaifanaba Shemba Kanglup organised a poets' meet to mark the 67th death anniversary of the great poet at Manipur Press Club today.
Manipur University Manipuri Department Professor Dr E Dinamani, MANITRON Chairman MLA Kh Ratankumar and Manipur State Women Development Corporation Chairperson AK Mirabai Devi graced the occasion as president, chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Kh Ratankumar remembered the Mahakabi as an educationist, a writer, a poet and also a man who contributed a lot in the socio-political arena.
Saying that the writers are known to be the conscience of the society, the MLA expressed belief that the writers of the State would give optimistic thoughts to the Manipuri society.
Glorifying the works of the Mahakabi, Prof E Dinamani in his presidential address said that Anganghal is the base and foundation of Manipuri culture.
The Professor went on further that one must delve into the masterpieces of Anganghal if one has to know Manipuri culture and tradition.
Remembering the poet as a feminist writer, Prof E Dinamani observed that the sense of empowering women are visible in the works of Anganghal.
Raghu Leishangthem, BK Wahengba, Th Netrajit, Doneshwor Konsam, Dr K Shantibala, Konsam Nokul, Maya Nepram, Salam Tomba, Yaima Haoba and Haobijam Chanu Prema presented poems to mark paying tribute and honour to Mahakabi Hijam Anganghal.
