KVA, KNWU condemn killing, firing incident

Imphal, November 21 2023: Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority (KVA) and Konsaram Naga Women Union (KNWU) have strongly condemned the attack perpetrated by unknown miscreants in between Haraothel and Kharam Vaiphei village under Kangpokpi district on Monday, where two Kuki-Zo people were killed.

In a joint release, KVA chairman D Adam and KNWU president Lily Thuimai conveyed that Konsaram village remains committed to the principle of neutrality initiated by the United Naga Council (UNC) during this prevailing situation of communal conflict in the state.

The people of Konsaram are yearning for early peace and normalcy in the region.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the communal crisis in Manipur state, it added.

Warning both the warring communities to stay away from the Naga areas, the Authority and Union decried that during this difficult situation, the innocent Konsaram villagers are often at the receiving end of unabated harassment and assault from the neighbouring Kuki villages.

It further cautioned that the restrain and tolerance of the innocent Naga villagers during this hard time should not be tested or construed as weakness and if the provocation and harassment on Konsaram people do not stop immediately, they will be compelled to retaliate in self-defence.

KVA and KNWU further said that the people of Konsaram also vehemently condemn the act of terror orchestrated by Kuki militants hand in glove with 30 Assam Rifles targeting its villagers on Monday.

The act of indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons in the village and threatening women and children amount to violation of human rights.

It is appalling to see that those trained to protect the sovereignty and integrity of .

India are indulging in target practices with .innocent Naga civilians, it contended.

The bodies also claimed that this blatant attempt of central security forces in collaboration with Kuki militants to create fear psychosis among the innocent Naga villagers cannot be accepted in any form.

All right thinking citizens of this country should condemn such appalling act committed by law enforcing agency, so called 'Sentinel of the Hill People' in close collusion with outlawed organisations, it emphasised.

The bodies also demanded that all sorts of search operations in Naga areas carried out by Indian security forces in collaboration with Kuki militants should be immediately ceased and they should stop terrorising innocent Naga civilians.

"When the Nagas are not party to any of the warring factions, why innocent Naga civilians should be subjected and instilled with fear and insecurity in their own land.

We reiterate our stand for peaceful co-existence with all the communities and remain committed to the principle of neutrality in the ongoing communal conflict," it said.

The bodies further warned that Konsaram villagers will no longer tolerate any form of harassment of its people and also will not allow carrying out unprovoked attack or loitering openly with arms in its jurisdiction.

In the event of any such situation, Naga villagers will not remain mute spectator, it stated.
