Many demand release of arrested cadre

Imphal, August 10 2026: The Universal Mother's Organisation (UMO) has demanded unconditional release of Pambei-led UNLF cadre Sangkar within three days.

Speaking to reporters at a press meet held at the UMO office at Lamphelpat Khunou, its president, Sorojini said the arrest of the cadre of the group engaged in peace talk with the Government of India would discourage other groups from pursuing similar talks and returning to the mainstream.

Such arrests could derail peace talk, and force the group to return to the old revolutionary ways, she said.

The Government and its agencies must encourage peace talks, and refrain from arresting cadres of the group.

The cadre, Sangkar, who was arrested from Jiribam on August 7 must be released without any conditions attached, she added.

Women from the Khongjom area also demanded the unconditional release of the cadre of the Pambei-led UNLF arrested by security forces.

Addressing the media at Khongjom Keithel today, Mutum Nirmala, a Meira Paibi, claimed that the UNLF cadre were arrested after being summoned for talks at Jiribam Police Station on August 7 .

She said the Pambei-led UNLF is engaged in peace talks stating that the crackdown on its cadres by security forces was unacceptable.

A protest was also staged at Kakching Keithel, with demonstrators raising a similar demand for the unconditional release of the arrested individuals.

Arresting the MPA cadres after summoning them for talks was an act of cowardice, they said and added that they supported the movement being launched by various organisations demanding their release.

A similar protest was also staged at Thoubal Melaground.
