Kangpokpi, November 21 2023:
Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing inaugurated a road named "May Road" in the presence of leaders of Kuki Inpi Saikul, Kuki Women Union Saikul, Kuki Students' Organisation, Saikul, and village chiefs of the area, to commemorate the reconciliation of the Kuki-Zo community after the Manipur mayhem in May.
As the second road after the Saparmeina-Saikul road, linking Saikul sub-division with the rest of the state via National Highway 2, the newly inaugurated 15 km long road will serve as another lifeline for Saikul people, offering a shorter distance.
Although the road is yet to be blacktopped, the finance department formed under Kuki Inpi Saikul took the initiative to make the road motorable during the ongoing conflict in the state, improving connectivity among the Kuki-Zo populace in Kangpokpi district.
While expressing appreciation for the initiative and efforts of Kuki Inpi Saikul and other CSOs in Saikul, the MLA conveyed her disappointment that many road development projects under various departments could not be executed due to the violence.
She encouraged the civil bodies of Saikul to continue working collectively for the welfare of the public and humanitarian services.
After pastor of KBC Centre Saikul reverend Seiminlen Haokip dedicated the road for public use, the MLA flagged off vehicles to mark the inauguration.
Kuki Inpi Saikul's finance department secretary Seikhohao Karong said, "We are fortunate that the much-desired reconciliation of Kuki-Zo community in the state could finally come after the May violence.
The long division among the Kuki-Zo people has been addressed by the violence, uniting all brothers and sisters of the Kuki-Zo people.
To mark the reconciliation, the road is named May Road".
Various leaders of CSOs and village chiefs expressed their happiness over the opening of the road for public use, conveying gratitude to all those who have turned the long- awaited dream of the people into reality.
