Imphal, November 21 2023:
While warning the warring communities (Meitei and Kuki) to stay away from Naga areas, the Konsakhul (Konsaram) Village Authority and Konsaram Naga Women Union have come down heavily on Kuki militants accusing it of terrorising the villagers on November 20 .
In a statement, the bodies alleged that the Konsaram village had been fired upon using automatic weapons and its people are often at the receiving end of unabated harassment and assault from neighbouring Kuki villages.
The Konsaram Village Authority (KVA) and Konsaram Naga Women Union (KNWU) said they strongly condemn the attack perpetrated by unknown miscreants at a place between Haraothel and Kharam Vaiphei village which took the lives of two Kuki-Zo people.
The Konsaram village remains committed to the principle of neutrality initiated by the United Naga Council (UNC) during the prevailing conflict.
The people of the village are yearning for early peace and normalcy in the State, and "our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by the crisis during this trying time," the two bodies said.
While warning the warring communities to not bring troubles in Naga areas, the village authority and the women's union asserted that the innocent Konsaram villagers are often at the receiving end of unabated harassment and assault from the neighbouring Kuki villages.
The efforts of restraints and endurance of the innocent Naga villagers during this hard time should not be tested or construed as weakness.
If the provocation and unabated harassment of Konsaram people does not stop immediately, the villagers will be compelled to retaliate in self-defense, they said.
"The people of Konsaram vehemently condemn the act of terror orchestrated by Kuki militants hand in glove with Assam Rifles targeting its villagers on November 20, 2023," said the village authority and the women union, alleging that the village had been fired upon using automatic weapons.
The act of indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons in the village and threatening women and children amounts to violation of human rights, said the bodies accusing Kuki militants and AR of creating fear psychosis among the villagers.
The bodies further asserted that all sorts of combing operations in Naga areas carried out by Indian security forces "in collaboration with Kuki militants" should immediately stop to cease terrorizing the innocent Naga civilians.
When the Nagas are not party to any of the warring factions, why innocent Naga civilians should be subjected and instilled with fear and insecurity in their own land, they said.
The Konsakhul (Konsaram) villagers stand for peaceful co-existence with all the communities and remain committed to the principle of neutrality in the ongoing communal conflict.
However, the village will no longer tolerate any form of harassment of its people, they said.
The village will not allow any party carry out unprovoked attacks or loitering of persons openly with arms in its jurisdiction.
In the event of any such situation, the Naga villagers will not remain mute spectators, they said.
