Imphal, August 10 2026: The Superintendent of Police (SP), Jiribam has allegedly defied an order issued by the ADGP on behalf of the Director General of Police (DGP) .

The ADGP issued an order for escorting loaded trucks and tankers up to Imphal by two convoys of security escorts today but the SP Jiribam sent in only one convoy of security escorts.

A message sent by the ADGP on behalf of the DGP asked the SP Jiribam to arrange two convoys of security escorts to escort the loaded trucks and tankers up to Imphal today but the SP Jiribam sent only one convoy of security escorts.

On the other hand, the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has stated that all the loaded trucks and tankers currently stranded at Jiribam and Assam will start moving toward Imphal with or without security escorts if the Government does not take up necessary measures to bring in the stranded vehicles within five days.

The TDC has submitted a representation to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to take up necessary action against the SP Jiribam for defying the order/instruction issued by his superiors.

According to the TDC's representation, the Police Headquarters issued an order on August 9 for arranging two convoys of CRPF escorts to escort stranded tankers LPG bullets, FCI trucks and other loaded trucks from Jiribam to Imphal today.

But the SP Jiribam arranged only one convoy of security escorts and sent in only 150 loaded trucks with the security escorts.

At present, a large number of loaded tankers and trucks bound for Imphal are stranded at Jiribam and Silchar due to the Government's failure to arrange adequate security escorts.

Because of the SP's defiance of the superior officers' instruction, large quantities of perishable items have been spoiled, said the TDC's representation.

The TDC has demanded that the SP Jiribam be transferred elsewhere.

Speaking to media persons, TDC president H Ranjit said that they will launch strong agitation if the Government fails to take befitting action against the SP Jiribam.

If the Government fails to take up necessary measures to bring in all the loaded trucks currently stranded at Jiribam and Silchar within the next five days, all these trucks and tankers will resume their journey to Imphal with or without security escorts, he said.

It has been quite a long time that a large number of drivers are stranded on the Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH-37) .

They have been stranded on the highway for so many days because of the extremely poor condition of the highway and the Government's failure to arrange adequate security escorts.

The drivers have suffered too much, too long, Ranjit said.

He said that many commodities are no longer available or their prices have soared, if available because of the limited supply.

Ranjit said that the TDC earlier appealed to the Chief Minister to understand the suffering of the drivers and arrange adequate security escorts in order to bring in all the stranded vehicles.

Meanwhile, a team of Manipur Police went to Silchar on August 9 to bring in Imphal-bound oil and LPG tankers stranded there.

However, the Silchar Drivers' Union raised a strong protest against giving priority only to oil and LPG tankers, and objected to the Manipur Police's plan to take only oil and LPG tankers.

The Silchar Drivers' Union, while pointing that the loaded trucks bound for Imphal have been stranded for quite a long time in different parts of Assam, argued that all the stranded vehicles including both oil tankers and other loaded trucks must move as per the existing line.

Manipur Police may give priority to oil and LPG tankers after reaching Jiribam, they said.

Thus the Silchar Drivers' Union thwarted the Manipur Police's attempt to bring in stranded oil and LPG tankers from Assam on priority basis.
