Imphal, March 11 2024:
Mixed martial arts fighter Chungreng Koren, belonging to the Koireng community, has garnered attention on social media after making a heartfelt plea to Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst the ongoing violence and unrest in the state.
Koren's appeal comes amid tensions in Manipur, which have resulted in over 200 casualties since May 2023, after a tribal solidarity march organised by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) turned violent in Churachandpur district.
In a video circulating widely on social media, Chongreng Koren addressed the dire situation in Manipur, highlighting shortages of food and water in relief camps, impacting the lives of many.
He expressed concern over the plight of the people, particularly children who are unable to pursue education adequately amidst the turmoil.
Koren earnestly implored Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur and take steps to restore peace in the state.
"This is my humble request.
Violence is happening in Manipur.
It has been almost a year.
People are dying and many people are at relief camps.
There is a shortage of food and water at these relief camps.
The children are not able to study properly.
The future is unclear.
Modi ji, please visit Manipur once and restore peace in the state," Chungreng Koren is heard speaking at the event in the video.
The video, recorded after Koren's match in the Matrix Fight Night 14, has garnered significant attention, drawing awareness to the ongoing crisis in Manipur and the urgent need for intervention to alleviate the suffering of its residents.
In a remarkable showcase of skill, Chungreng Koren exhibited his prowess against veteran Mohammed Farhad.
The 'Indian Rhino' secured the interim bantamweight title with a dominant TKO victory.
Asserting his superiority throughout all four rounds, he established himself as a formidable contender to challenge Uloomi Karim for the primary bantamweight title.
Chungreng's stellar performance cements his status as the leading 135-pound fighter in Indian MMA at present.
