Outreach programmes on SWEEP empower voters

Imphal, March 11 2024:
The Regional Office of Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in Imphal, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organised one-day Integrated Com munication and Outreach Programmes (ICOP) on Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at Oriental College and Apou Kading High School on Monday.
At Oriental College, principal Dr S Ranjit, presided over the event also attended by coordinator of IQC and associate professor of department of economics Ch Somorendra, All Manipur College Teachers' Association president and head of department of chemistry N Lokendro, and assistant professor Kongkham Biplob of department of political science and cpordinator of the Electoral Literacy Club.
Participants engaged in discussions covering ethical and informed voting, use of cVIGIL App and Saksham App, toll-free number 1950, as well as familiarisation with EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Au dit Trail (VVPAT).
They were encouraged to disseminate knowledge gained among their family and friends.
A quiz competition was also held, and winners presented mementoes and certificates, while all attendees received certificates of participation.
Meanwhile, at Apou Kading High School, headmaster G Pamei emphasised the importance of voters to understand candidates' backgrounds and party manifestos.
Dr Engam Pame, regional director of CBC Imphal, highlighted the constitutional right to vote and the power of the people to effect change by electing good leaders.
He introduced the cVIGIL App as a tool for reporting election irregularities promptly.
Asibou Rengmunta, a teacher, while speaking as resource person, enlightened the attendees on ethical voting, use of EVMs and WPATs, responsibilities of presiding officers, and significance of democracy.
A quiz competition was also conducted which was followed by prize distribution.
Additionally, CBC, RO, Imphal, announced plans to conduct ICOPs on SVEEP at Malek, Chaton II, and Takou villages under Tamei sub-division, Tamenglong district.
The programmes were also attended by district coordinator (IEM) LP Pamai and social workers S Rimai and M Chawang.
