The social worker, who graced a public function as the chief guest, also handed over milk powder for use of the villagers apart from extending financial assistance to village elders above 50 years of age.
At the function held with Kabrang village headman S Samson as the president and village leader Robin Tangkhul as the guest of honour, Itomba assured his personal endeavour and contribution to ameliorate hardships faced by the locals for which he fervently appealed to the villagers to come forth and convey their problems.
moreover, the social activist besides assessing problems besetting the villagers, also affirmed that waters overflowing from the hill streams and rivulets would be properly channelised for agricultural usage at the earliest through consultation with authorities of department concerned.
On the otherhand, chemically treated mosquito nets were distributed to fishermen dwelling at the floating biomass of loktak Lake as a part of malaria control measures jointly organised by the Thanga Block Congress Committee and Hut Dwellers' Welfare Association, Loktak.
Thanga AC MLA T Mangibabu and State Malaria officer Dr H Nimaichand attended the programme held under the sponsorship of Vector Borne disease Control Society, as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
In his address, MLA Mangibabu clarified that State Government's initiative to clear phumdis is under the long term objective to save/preserve the largest fresh water lake of the region and should not be construed as an attempt to uproot the settlers.
Calling upon the settlers to extend cooperation to the Government's endeavour in saving the lake from further pollution, he assured to provide mobile phone service to the Lake dwellers in order to facilitate constant touch and communication.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Nimaichand gave assurance to the locals that more imported mosquito nets would be made available to all the people at the earliest.
Nimaichand also urged all concerned to extend their cooperation in the future endeavour of the Society to bring a change.
