Imphal, June 16, 2010:
Stating that the recent down pour has led to the over flooding of Ijei and Iran rivers in Noney, which in turn has affected the inhabitants of the area severely, the Village Authority Council of Noney has appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter and redress the sufferings of the people.
In a statement, the Village Council said that the flood has completely destroyed/damaged seven buildings, schools, stone crushers, saw mill and submerged and eroded the paddy fields with standing crops.
The statement added that the Railway construction company has excavated the earth and kept them in mounds beside the rail track and when rain falls, the excavated areas get eroded along the rivers and streams and is the main reason for the flood.
The Village Council has also expressed its gratitude to the CO of 26 Assam Rifles and his men for freely distributing rice and dal to the affected people.
