Imphal, June 16, 2010:
Apparently infuriated over non-availability of electricity during World Cup soccer matches, local people vandalised Kongba power sub-station.
On the other hand, considering the popularity of World Cup soccer in Manipur, the Power Department has started running Heavy Fuel Power Project to generate additional power.
Moreover, the State Government has decided to import 10 MW of power from outside the State to ensure power supply at least during World Cup matches.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Principal Secretary (Power) LP Golmei said that Kongba Power sub-station was vandalised a few days back, apparently for not supplying electricity during World Cup matches.
In view of the huge popularity of World Cup football in Manipur, which is considered the most spectacular and greatest sporting event on the planet, Leimakhong Heavy Fuel Power Project has been put into service generating 10 MW of power.
In addition, the State Government is planning to purchase 10 MW of power from outside the State specifically for the World Cup.
The Power Department is also working hard to restore an electric line between Nagaland and Manipur which has been snapped.
