The division bench of the Gauhati High Court Imphal Bench today given one more chance to the state government for the production of two "Wanted persons" behind the imposition of economic blockade on the national highways and ensure production of them on July 6 next.
The court, during a hearing on a PIL (Public Interest Litigation), once asked the Central and State governments to take up all possible and permissible steps under law for removing the economic blockade on the two national highways (NH-39 and NH-53) immediately and also ensure free flow of traffics on them.
The hearing to the PIL was conducted in the court of the division bench comprising judges, Justice BK Singh and Justice Mutum BK Singh today.
During the hearing government counsel appraised the court about the action taken up by the state police department against David Choro, acting president of ANSAM and acting president of UNC, Samson Remei in pursuance of the court directive for causing their production before the court.
The government counsel also put down the court that Central government is taking initiative to get the blockade removed through peaceful negotiation and in case.
As the initiatives failed to give the desired result, government is planning to deployment of adequate central security within a short period of time, he added.
In response to the government counsel, the court asked to take up some positive steps so that the economic blockade is removed immediately so that there is free flow of traffic on both the highways no.39 and 53 without any delay observing that the more than two month economic blockade has fall into meaningless one of the most precious fundamental rights, that is, right to life.
The court also asked the police department to produce the two leaders of the striking bodies to produced in the court on July 6 next, on which the court will conduct hearing once again on the same day.
