After a brief pause, the shifting work of women vendors to the Nupi Keithel 2 was continued today in the presence of Works Minister K Ranjit and strict supervision of MAHUD and IMC officials.
No reports of duplicate license or arguments among the vendors were received today.
Speaking to the media, K Ranjit said that the issue of duplicate license that interrupted the shifting work of the vendors has been solved after an official talk with the women vendors and the Chief Minister.
The remaining seats will be shifted tomorrow from 11 am.
However, vendors will be allowed to sell their items in the new market sheds only after the shifting work is completed.
The duplicate licenses found during the shifting process will be terminated.
Any officials who were found guilty will be penalized even if they were retired, he said.
He added that the street vendors who have valid license on the roadside of Nagamapal and Uripok will be shifted to the temporary shed.
However the number of street vendors with valid license is 2000 and the total seats in the temporary shed is 4000.After the street vendors and Ngari vendors have been accommodated in the temporary sheds, the remaining unused sheds will be demolished.
The remaining areas after flooring will be given to the street vendors without license.
Those who could not get seats in the area will be accommodated to the market shed near Shankar Talkies at Lamphel Super Market.
The state government also feels sorry in its incapability to provide seats to the street vendors.
But government will construct another market shed since AICC Preisdent, Sonia Gandhi sanctioned amount for another market shed, Ranjit added.
