Re: Play Internesenal Dokumentari Kumhei, the first documentary film festival of North East India was inaugurated by Governor Gurbachan Jagat at Classic Hotel yesterday.
The festival opened with American filmmaker Anne Bass's first film, Dancing Across Borders (2008) .
English filmmaker Oliver Fergussen-Taylor's one-minute animation film, Trash Dance (2008) was also screned on the first day.
Earlier, speaking at the inaugural function, Governor Gurbachan Jagat lauded the filmmakers of the State for producing good films and winning awards despite various constraints.
The Governor expressed confidence that State filmmakers would be able to share their experiences with the delegates coming from outside the State.
He said that bringing people together from different cultural backgrounds and sharing of experiences would mould a new culture that signifies the whole world.
Gurbachan Jagat also expressed hope that Manipuri filmmakers and artistes would have the previledge of learning new ideas from Nan Melville's workshop on making dance documentary.
