Along with inaugurating a Night Shelter Home, accommodation for the night of daily wage earners and others who could not return home for the night has been ensured from yesterday.
To be operated under the Labour Department of the State Government, the Night Shelter Home was inaugurated by Health Minister Ph Parijat at Laipham Khunou just opposite to Khuman Lampak Bus Terminus in Imphal East district today.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function, Minister Parijat expressed happiness over the activities of the Labour Department and said setting up of a Night Shelter Home for the daily wage earnerlabourers and other individuals who could not return home is the need of the hour specially in view of frequent and sudden imposition of bandh, blockade, general strike, etc.
The Night Shelter Home which was inaugurated today is only for men and in due course of time a similar home for the women would also be set up, the Minister assured, adding that a sum of Rs 60 lakhs as been kept aside for the purpose.
The Night Shelter Home can accommodated upto 60 to 70 people and a lodger have to be pay Rs 20 for one night.
In case of bandh, blockade, general strike, curfew, etc, a lodger can stayed upto three days.
The reporting time at the Night Shelter Home is from 5.30 pm to 7.30 in summer and from 5 pm to 7 pm in winter.
Consumption of intoxicants of any kind has been strictly prohibited in the Night Shelter Home where a Chowkidar and a caretaker would be deployed to keep vigil against such unwanted activities.
In case of theft and breakage of the properties of the Home, fine would be levied upon the lodgers concerned.
