Imphal, June 10 2010:
Troops of 26 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division provided relief to hundreds of civilians stranded on NH-53 due to heavy rains and land slides on the night of June 9 and also this morning.
A press from PIB (DW) informed that the troops provided hot food and water to the stranded passenders, drivers and cleaners of more than 400 trucks and buses carrying essential goods from Jiribam to Imphal.
The troops have been providing diesel to the dozers and helped in clearing the land slides on NH 53 .
It further stated that medical aid was also provided by the unit doctors to one Oinam Sunjoy Singh who had high BP and complained of chest pain.
The Assam Rifles troops have been deployed continiously for over 72 hours now and are continously providing relief so as to ensure that essential goods reach Imphal.
