Fitting tributes were paid to revolutionary leader and noted writer Arambam Samarendra today on his 10th death anniversary which was observed far and wide.
Offering of floral tributes to his photographs as well as the bust, patriotic song competition, Kang and Mukna festival and performance of cultural dances and songs were some of the main features of the observance which was held not only in Manipur but also in Hojai and Cachar in Assam.
The main observance function was organised jointly by Arambam Samarendra Trust, Sagolband Meino Leirak and Social Standard Club at Khurai Salanthong, where the memorial of the departed revolutionary leader and noted writer stands.
There, the public as well as the family members of the departed leader paid homage to his bust from 10 am.

Later during the day, Arambam Samarendra Memorial lecture programme was held at GM Hall with Prof Soyam Lokendrajit, head of Department of Philosophy, Manipur University presiding over the function.
Regional Director of Panos South Asia, Guwahati Dr Sanjoy (Xonzoi) Borbora delivered the memorial lecture.
The Trust also joint hands with other social organisations like Social Sporting Club, Social Workers' Congress and Jiri Development Organisation in Imphal East district; Universal Mothers' Organisation and Tera Ideal Club in Imphal West district; UPF Yairipok General Council in Thoubal district; NDO, Toubul Youth Development Committee and Naorem Youth Volleyball Association in Bishnupur, Meetei Council Moreh in Chandel district, Manipur Cultural Society in Hojai and Manipur Benevolent Society and Apunba Meira Paibi Apunba, Assam in Silchar in observing the commemorative event at various places.
At Sekta, Khongman Social Welfare Congress building, Jiribam Town hall, Manipur Press Club, Tera, Yairipok Keithel, Langmeidong, Nongmaikhong, Toubul, Naorem and Moreh, patriotic song competition and symposium were organised to mark the occasion.
In Imphal East district, Pari Imom Kanba Lup organised a spot painting competition on the theme of territorial integrity at Lainingthou Puthiba Shanglen at Khurai.
In Thoubal district, Youth Development Association organised a Kang tournament at Wabagai and Arambam Samarendra Memorial Observation Committee organised a Thoubal district football tournament at Tekcham.
In Bishnupur district, the Ithai Wangoo and Kumbi units of the Arambam Samarendra Memorial Observation Committee hosted a Mukna festival while at Kwakta, YDO organised a programme of cultural dances and song.
In Imphal West district, Aryan Theatre and Apunba Manipur Lou-Shingu Lup also joined hands in observing the 10th death anniversary of Samarendra.
On the other hand, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council observed the death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Palace Compound here today.
Sahitya Akademi awardee Ayekpam Inakhunba, president of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council Phurailatpam Gunachandra Sharma and vice president Narendra Ningomba attended the observance as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Rich floral tributes were paid to the photograph of Samarendra at the occasion.
The 10th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra was also observed under the aegis of Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) at Jiri town hall today, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
Zilla Parishad member Ph Monteshori Devi and JDO president Th Brojen were respective chief guest and president of the function which was also attended by Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup K Subhasini Devi, president of Apunba Jiri Meira Paibi S Sushila Devi and secretary of AJUCA M Shyamkumar as guests of honour.
