Zeliangrong bodies condemn killing of Obed Kamei

Imphal, July 24 2023: The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) and Zeliangrong United Committee Manipur Valley (ZUCM) have condemned the 'abduction and killing' of Obed Kamei, Regional Tenki Officer, Makuilongdi Region ZUF near Dailong village, Tamenglong on July 24 by the NSCN (IM) .

A statement issued by Lungailin Kamei, Office Secretary, ZU (AMN) expressed belief that if there are any differences between individuals, parties, groups, organizations etc, it can be settled through peaceful means which is the Zeliangrong traditional customary law of the land laid down by the forefathers.

Stating that ZU (AMN) is always ready to help, the statement appealed to both NSCN (IM) and ZUF (Jenchui) to shun any form of violence and killing in all Zeliangrong inhabited areas during this sensitive and crucial juncture.

ZU (AMN) also shared in the pain and sorrow of the bereaved family members while offering prayers to the Almighty for the departed's soul to rest in peace.

Meanwhile, ZUCM has asserted that internecine killings at such crucial times will not serve the cause of the common ethnic brethren of the Zeliangrong community.

Thus it appealed to both parties to abjure the path of violence, exercise utmost restrain and inculcate the spirit of forgive and forget.

Opposing blooshed between the same race within the Naga communities, the ZSUM maintained that "The suppression of Zeliangrong by NSCN (IM) has nothing to do with Naga political struggle and political aspiration but it will create more trust deficit in our society" .

Stating that the demand of Zeliangrong people to live under a single administrative roof is not interfering the Naga national issue, the ZSUM appealed to all concerned Naga organizations and various insurgency groups particularly the NSCN (IM) to understand the political aspiration of the Zeliangrong people.
