Imphal, October 09 2023: "Conflicts, confrontations and squabblings amongst ourselves will only please the adversaries.

Let us all work together to avoid such a situation", stated Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit.

Thongam Biswajit today distributed financial aid to 83 displaced families who are currently taking shelter in the relief camp opened at Ideal Girls' College, Akampat, Imphal East.

The financial aid was distributed to only labour card holders under the 'Special Scheme for Education of Children at Relief Camps for Labour Card Holders' .

Speaking at the function, Biswajit said, "We will not be able to bring any solution to the protracted crisis as long as we are caught in internal conflicts and squabblings.

Let us all work together to work out a solution and bring peace in the State through positive suggestions" .

He also appealed to all the people to follow the principle of 'forgive and forget' and bring an end to the protracted crisis.

"Whether we are CSOs or citizens or politicians, all sections of the society need to forget all grievances and work collectively toward restoration of peace and normalcy in the State", he said.

He went on to claim that different departments of the State Government have initiated several measures to alleviate the economic condition of the inmates of Akampat relief camp.

He said that the relief camp was opened on May 10 and 720 IDPs are taking shelter in the camp.

Biswajit said that he and the Thongju Assembly Constituency Relief Committee have been bearing the lion's share of managing the relief camp except for some help provided by the Imphal East Deputy Commissioner and a few individuals.

Saying that the IDPs cannot stay for long in relief camps, he claimed that the Government has taken up several measures for resettlement of the IDPs.

Maintaining that the State Government alone will not be able to bring a solution to the crisis, the Agriculture Minister sought cooperation from all sections of people toward bringing peace in the State.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Peter Salam said that the Government was extending financial aid of Rs 5000 each to displaced families who are in possession of labour cards toward education of children in labour camps after formulating a special scheme.

Saying that the labour card should be renewed every year, Peter Salam informed that families in possession of labour cards would be given Rs 5000 in a year for a child and the same aid can be availed for two children.

Families in possession of labour cards are also entitled to medical reimbursement of Rs 45,000 if they undergo surgical operation.

If labour card holders meet with road accidents, they are entitled to a compensation of Rs 15,000.Financial aid of Rs 5000 is also given to woman labour card holders at the time of child delivery.

On attaining 60 years, labour card holders will get a monthly pension of Rs 1000.If any labour card holder dies in accident, his/her family would get up to Rs five lakh, said the Deputy Labour Commissioner.
