Other heinous crimes have also happened, CPI tells PM

Imphal, July 22 2023: The Prime Minister speaking only on the unfortunate incident that happened to two women and ignoring other heinous and unspeakable crimes that have been committed against Meitei women and men is very unfortunate, said CPI Manipur State Council.

While the atrocity committed by few miscreants to the two Kuki women was inhumane and is condemned by all sections of the people, numerous heinous crimes have been committed against Meitei women, children and men by Kuki militants since May 3 without any word of condemnation from the Prime Minister, said the party.

Speaking to the media at Irawat Bhavan today, CPI MSC executive member RK Amusana said the Government must convene an emergency State Assembly session to discuss the present situation and take resolutions to end the crisis and protect State's integrity.

He said the present conflict is all about the Meiteis defending themselves and the State against Kuki terrorists from Myanmar and Kuki insurgents who started burning Meitei houses and killing innocent civilians on May 3 .

"The Kukis have burnt hundreds of Meitei houses, religious places and murdered many innocent Meitei men and women mercilessly" .

While Meiteis were defending themselves, a video surfaced which showed two women being paraded nude by few miscreants.

This act against the two women is against humanity and the CPI strongly condemns such atrocities, he said.

He added that while the authorities concerned have arrested some of the miscreants, the Meitei society too have condemned the heinous crime and taken strong actions against the culprits who have been identified.

The Meitei public too are demanding stringent legal punishment for all culprits involved.

While the incident was condemned by all, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the incident and spoke of strict action against the culprits.

While the incident is condemnable, the PM breaking silence over the incident alone is very unfortunate, he said.

In nearly three months of the conflict, the Kukis have burnt hundreds of Meitei houses, committed unspeakable atrocities against Meitei women and men, and inhumanly murdered many.

However, the PM was silent when all these were happening on his watch, he said.

As violence has not ceased even after two months, Narendra Modi has failed as Prime Minister, RK Amusana said.

He reminded the PM that Manipur has more than a thousand year history and she was an independent State and a democracy before India was.

The people of the State are united against all foes that attempt to disintegrate her.

The CM should, as a man, meet the leaders in the Centre and present a resolute stand to protect Manipur's integrity.

If he can't do this, he should step down immediately, RK Amusana said.
