Ukhrul, July 03 2023:
Around three hundred students including parents and guardians of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Ukhrul staged a sit-in protest at Gandhi Chowk, Phungreitang Ukhrul demanding resumption of normal classes without further extending summer break.
Notably, schools in Manipur have remained closed for more than 2 months after communal clashes erupted in Manipur between two communities on May 3 .
It might be mentioned that Section 144 of CrPc and curfew have been imposed in the valley districts as well as hill districts in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur but the situation in other districts of Manipur has remained normal and peaceful.
On the other hand, repeated extension of vacation has negatively impacted the discipline and academic career of the 400 students studying in KVS, Ukhrul.
The protestors reminded that random extension of summer vacation without appraising the concerned Chairman, Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC) Kendriya Vidyalaya is unfair and unjust.
Meanwhile, HA Mansak, a Class XI student of KVS, Ukhrul, on behalf of the student community urged the Government to refrain from further extending the summer break because of the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
Leishiwon, one of the parents, stated that there is no need for an extension of summer vacation in Ukhrul as no prohibitory order has been imposed in the district and the situation in Ukhrul has been peaceful without any reports of incidents related to the ongoing crisis.
According to the information given by the parents, the State Government has extended the summer vacation in Ukhrul by 30 days while in other states of India, normal classes have resumed from June 15 .
It has grievously affected the educational studies of students.
The protestors also held placards with the message "Please no more extension of summer break", "Too many holidays spoil our children", "I want to go to school", "I miss school and friends", "My school my future" .
Thus, through this sit-in protest, the parents and students of KVS, Ukhrul have appealed for exclusion of the unaffected districts instead of declaring a blanket holiday across Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathans of Manipur in the future.
Meanwhile, the parents and students of KVS, Ukhrul also submitted a memorandum to the Human Resource Development (HRD) Government of India via Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul in this connection.
