Imphal, July 03 2023:
Even as violence continues without no end in sight, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has asked their people in the peripheral areas to stay alert, fortify defence and stand their ground firm to face Meiteis.
In a statement issued on July 1, KIM said it vehemently condemns the alleged continuous onslaught on villages by 'extremist Meitei forces' .
Villages such as Haraothel, Munlai and Kangchup Bethel in Kangpokpi district were allegedly attacked by "Meitei outlawed insurgent groups" on June 29 and 30 .
While two persons were injured, one police Head Constable, Lenglam Dimngel, posted at Leimakhong was caught in the crossfire and killed at Haraothel, said KIM.
Accusing Meitei insurgents of leading the attacks, KIM said it can no longer remain a mere spectator and asked the Kuki people in the peripheral areas to stay alert, fortify their defence and stand their ground firm to face the Meiteis.
Terming the present crisis a "State sponsored" campaign against Kuki people, KIM further asserted that COCOMI's peace effort is limited to "spreading narratives full of lies, negativity which amounts to furtherance of hate campaign against the Kuki community" .
The Kuki Inpi Manipur said it is appalled at the "high voltage resignation drama staged-managed by N Biren Singh" .
Although "well-scripted and meticulously executed", the incident was a clear reminder that "lawlessness is at its zenith in Manipur, besides proving beyond doubt the incompetency of Biren Singh" .
"Law is in the hands of the street womenfolk and vigilantism is the hallmark of the day," said KIM.
KIM then accused the media in Imphal of not presenting facts.
"The irresponsible Meitei media of Imphal including AIR Imphal are also advised to present facts instead of perceived 'fake' news and lies.
Misinformation by the media is responsible to a large extent in escalating the present violence.
Presentation of unbiased news and views would certainly go a long way in bringing back normalcy," read the KIM's statement.
"The Central authority should take cognizance of all the facts and act immediately and accordingly.
It should restore order and rein in those who take law in their hands.
Kuki people shall not be held responsible for any consequence due to the failure to control the activities of outlawed VBIGs and street vigilantes including womenfolk who are instigated by some political leaders and extremist outfits hand in glove with N Biren Singh," it added.
Notably, a day after KIM released the statement, three Meitei civilians and one Kuki man were killed in a violent clash at Meitei inhabited Khoijumantabi area.
