Imphal, July 03 2023:
Human Rights Defender Manipur (HRDM) and Human Rights Council (HRC) appealed to authority concerned to reopen the Imphal-Dimapur road which remains off-limit for commercial vehicles since May 3 .
Contrary to media report about reopening of the national highway the main lifeline of Manipur continues to be blocked at Kangpokpi, said HRDM joint secretary Kenny Khwairakpam.
Addressing media persons on Monday, Kenny strongly condemned the alleged 'divide and rule' policy of the Govern- ment of India and called for stopping discrimination against Manipur and its people at the earliest.
According to the joint secretary, the government imposed ban on internet service due to the ongoing violence but it is applied only in the valley as there are enough evidence about ineffectiveness of the prohibition in the hills.
He appealed to authority concerned not to prolong the internet ban from July 5 as it is not able to contain the violence but having adverse impact on the people.
HRC convener Joy Chingakham and HRDM executive members also attended the press conference.
