Bishnupur, July 03 2023:
United Committee Manipur, Moirang Unit has strongly appealed against posing any impediments to farming activities in the interest of both the hill and valley farmers' community and the public.
A statement issued by L Manglem Singh, chairman, UCM Moirang Unit has stated that the ongoing violence which erupted on May 3 has caused immense suffering to the people.
However, causing hindrances to farmers trying to start cultivating their lands is akin to plucking out the stomachs of everyone residing in the State.
"It is pertinent for people of all sections to note that so long as the conflict is allowed to continue, the more it will harm the innocent civilians", UCM Moirang Unit said.
Stating that peace has to be brought by the people, UCM Moirang Unit also condemned the incidents of firing perpetrated by suspected Kuki militants on innocent farmers at Terakhongshangbi, Thangjing foothills and Phubala when they went to till their land and inspect a canal.
UCM Moirang Unit also decried the incident at Khoirentak where cows were shot at and appealed for such unfortunate acts to never be repeated.
It further noted that before the violence erupted in Manipur, DC Bishenpur and UCM had agreed to convene a meeting with tribal chiefs in the district.
However, due to the conflict, the meeting failed to take place.
Maintaining that a majority of the populace in Bishnupur district earn their livelihood through farming, UCM Moirang Unit urged the State Government to open up the relevant State departments that will provide farmers with the necessary items to commence cultivation and ensure that these items reach the farmers in a timely manner.
At this critical juncture, it is not right to simply wait for the local MLA to take up action, it added.
It continued to point out to both the hill and valley people that the time is ripe to discuss commencement of farming activities in their agricultural fields.
UCM Moirang Unit also appealed to the public in Moirang Assembly Constituency to combine their efforts to start agricultural activities in the areas from Phubala to Kwakta riverbank.
