Imphal, July 03 2023:
The Forum for Restoration of Peace (FRP) is all set to spearhead a massive public movement against Union Government's lack of interest to resolve the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.
FRP, in a statement, said the forum is constrained to issue the statement over the failure of the Union Government of India to control the prevailing situation in Manipur.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on May 30, assured that he would come back to Manipur within fifteen days and urged the people to remain calm during those days.
But he failed to keep his promise and there is no respite in violence in Manipur, noted FRP.
Amit Shah's mantra of looking after the situations of the hills and giving charge for situations in the valley to the Chief Minister is controversial and a total failure.
Rather it has created suspicions and mistrust among the people, it said.
Saying the military exercise would not help in restoring peace and normalcy, FRP said that the present conflict in Manipur is not a fight over water sharing issue or dealing with naxalites in Bihar and Chhattisgarh.
The conflict has now been magnified and polarized as an identity crisis and in this kind of conflict, a process to bring a solution involves a dialogue, diplomacy and soft power mechanism which the Union Government has never initiated since the start of the conflict, it said.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister should have invited both the parties for a dialogue and resolved the issue amicably.
But he is watching over in silence and this is not expected in a democratic country like India, it said.
Since New Delhi has undermined the State Government and made fools of the elected people's representatives of Manipur, FRP will demonstrate a massive people's movement in New Delhi as well as in Imphal to show before the world that the Union Government is not interested in resolving the ethnic violence which has led to loss of many lives and properties and displaced thousands.
FRP also appealed to all peace loving citizens of Manipur to join the movement for restoring peace and normalcy in the State.
