UMPC submits memo to Prez, seeks intervention to restore peace in Manipur

Imphal, August 18 2023: United Meitei-Pangal Committee, Manipur (UMPC Manipur), an amalgamation of all Meitei-Pangal CSOs with a profound sense of loss & anguish has submitted a memorandum to the President Office, PMO, MHA and National Commission for Minorities for their kind intervention to redress the extraordinary situation confronting Manipur at the earliest and normalcy can be brought without any delay.

In a release, UMPC Manipur said that the situation of Manipur has reached critical in the last 100 days, witnessing a complete breakdown of law & order.

The Committee stated that as responsible & accountable citizen, Meitei-Pangal (Muslims), one of the major indigenous community who has 400+ years of existence in Manipur- visited and have been trying their best to heal the situation but due to extreme devastation and hardships faced by the people, including women & children, the genuine efforts from their end wouldn't be so fruitful.

"However, our continuous efforts are on to heal the situations", it added.

The Committee also expressed shock & anguish over the failure of the Central Government and its agencies to reconcile the mayhem which has been going on since May 3 last.

Alleging the mainland of purposely flout the issue and taking advantage using divide and rule policy to abolish the sanctity of Manipur, UMPC said, "We have been witnessing the ability of India so time has come to intervene the matter urgently to reinstate peace, integrity and tranquillity in the region" .

The Committee also asserted that the impact of the violence has been devastating, with more than 200 lives lost, over 1000 injuries including 13+ Meitei- Pangal seriously injured (1 Boy is half paralysed and admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi), more than 5000 houses gutted in arson-related incidents, 60,000+ people are displaced and over 6000 FIRS lodged since violence erupted on May 3 last.

The Committee continued that because of these, nearly 400+ Relief Camps have been set up in different parts of the State with horrible living conditions, especially for women and children.

UMPC Manipur requested the President of India, PMO, MHA & National Commission for Minorities for their kind intervention to establish peace, tranquillity, save integrity and harmony in Manipur without any delay.

"We UMPC Manipur will never try to compromise when it comes to Save the Integrity of our state Manipur.

Accountability for the devastation for the past 100+ days must be determined.

Both the Union and the State Government must fulfil their duty to provide justice to the affected communities -victims", it added.

UMPC Manipur further conveyed that their (President of India, PMO, MHA & National Commission for Minorities) esteemed support as well as intervention would create a conducive environment in this crucial juncture.
