A seven days long training programme on development of skill and design for women weavers organised under the aegis of District Industries Centre, Imphal East district has commenced from today at Chanam Sandrok of Keirao assembly constituency.
The inaugural programme was held with DIC (IE) General Manager Th Arun Singh, social activist N Itomba Meetei and former pradhan K Maimu as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Noting lack of expertise and entrepreneurial skill among the women weavers of Chanam Sandrok area, the DIC General Manager advised setting up self help groups to avail technical and financial assistance being extended by Department of Commerce and Industries.
Th arun also informed that recognised women weavers and their families are provided medical reimbursement facilities, in addition to assuring his personal endeavour to accelerate economic upliftment of women weavers of the area.
In his address, Itomba strongly advocated unity and cooperation among the local women weavers in order to avoid debt incurred through lending.
He stated that various welfare schemes and assistance extended under the Central Ministry concerned need to be capitalised to ensure maximum benefit and survival of the women weavers.
In all 50 local weavers are participating at the training programme being held with Maibam Romila Devi and Waikhom Ranjana Devi as instructors.
