Imphal, April 25 2010:
Crop seeds and chicken were distributed to selected farmers of Sajik Tampak in the interior Chandel district under the joint initiative of the Central Agriculture University, Iroishemba, Progressive Farmers Association, Chandel district in a function organised at campus of the 8 Assam Rifles, Chandel yesterday.
The function was graced by Dean of College of Agriculture, prof N Iboton as chief guest and resided over by CO of 8 Assam Rifles Colonel Ravindrakumar as president.
Member of Chamber Commerce Lian Gangte, head of animal science of CAU Dr M Daneshwor and head of Plant building JM Laishram.
Speaking on the occasion, prof Iboton called for need of produce self sustainable food by own efforts to the farmer and also appealed the farmers to cultivate food crops instead of cultivating plants which are harmful to health.
CO, Ravindrakumar said that poppy plant cultivation was found cultivating by the farmers of the Sajik Tampak but with the effort of the AR, they have stopped the same and replaced by food crop now.
He also while observing soil fertility of the area said that cultivating food crops will be beneficial to the farmers.
