Ukhrul, September 13 2023: Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur organised a one day training programme on 'Pest and Disease Management' at Tushar village Community hall today.

The training programme was held for farmers registered under Semka Farmers Producer Company Ltd of Ukhrul district under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) Phase-III .

Speaking as the resource person, Lungsem Luiram, Agriculture Officer Ukhrul raised awareness among the farmers about pests infecting black rice plants and its preventive measures.

He further informed that insects are attracted to black rice plants owing to its sweet smell making them prone to diseases.

In this regard, light traps, pheromone traps, night traps etc are very effective for pest protection, he said.

Apart from the above, clearing off weeds regularly will also help the plants thrive well.

The training programme was attended by the District Coordinator DSSS Y Solomon and Leishingam Luikham staff.

Altogether 68 members from 17 Farmers interested Groups (FIG) of Khamasom Phungdhar, Walleley Shirui, Langdang and Tushar village attended the training programme.
