Imphal, August 11 2026:
The farmers' wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity has warned of mass agitation if the Government fails to take up steps to compensate conflict affected farmers for crop loss by August 17 .
While the Government had released the 2023 compensation, it covered only some sections of the farmers.
Additionally, the Government is yet to release the compensation for farmers for 2024 and 2025, said COCOMI Farmers' Wing convenor Shyam Khuman, speaking to reporters at the office of the UCM at Lamphelpat today.
For 2024 and 2025, around 10,286 farmers have applied for compensation, and around 987.428 hectares of land is estimated to have been affected and wasted by the conflict.
The estimated amount of compensation to be sanctioned and released is around Rs 85,81,56,500, Shyam said.
The Government and its departments concerned must take up immediate steps to complete verification and other processes, and release the pending compensation by August 17.If no steps are taken to release the compensation, the farmers community will be forced to launch mass agitation from August 18, Shyam added.
