A complaint has been made to the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) for payment of compensation to the woman allegedly gang-raped by some Kuki youths on May 3 at Khumujamba Meetei Leikai in Churachandpur district.
The complaint filed by one Keisham Pradipkumar and Kangjam Maharani as petitioners with the government of Manipur represented by commissioner (home) and director (social welfare) as respondents demanded immediate release of compensation to the gang-rape survivor, payment of which is reportedly being held up by the government.
Bishnupur police first registered a Zero FIR after the Meetei woman filed a report about the incident and the case was later transferred to Churachandpur police station.
The CBI took over the case and began investigation.
The gang-rape survivor is currently staying in a government run institutional care home.
Before registration of the FIR, a video of two women paraded nude in public went viral on social media and the case was handed over to CBI for investigation following hue and cry from different sections of people.
Later, the government of Manipur provided compensation amount of Rs 10 each to both the women and Governor Anusuiya Uikey handed over the compensation amount to families of the survivor duo in Churachandpur.
But in the case of the woman gang-raped by some Kuki youths, the survivor is yet to get any monetary help under any schemes and still staying in a government run institutional care home even after the registration of FIR.
The victim requires interim compensation to mitigate financial burden she faces in getting psychological support and medicines to some extent.
However, authority concerned seems to be inattentive and the woman is yet to get any financial help the petition said and urged MHRC to issue necessary directive to the authority so that the survivor receives the entitled rights under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 .
