Imphal, September 13 2023:
Joujangtek (Lambung) Village chief Henkhopao Haokip has clarified that he was unaware of the indiscriminate firing towards Majuron (Zuruan) Rongmei Naga village allegedly by Kuki volunteers on September 10 while asserting that no KNF (Z) cadre is present in and around Joujangtek village.
Refuting the statement issued by Charuangc Rigaan (CR) Rongmei volunteers on September 11 regarding the alleged firing incident, Henkhopao said that he has no report about presence of KNF (Z) cadres in his village nor Joujangtek villagers heard the gunshots of the said incident as Majuron village falls under Churachandpur district and located far from Joujangtek village, which is in Noney district.
The matter was clearly made known to some Rongmei leaders who came to his house demanding apology for the said incident on September 10 at about 11pm.During the meeting, it was mutually agreed upon that the allegation based on doubts/ rumours that Kuki cadres are stationed in the village was entirely preposterous and would only tantamount to creating further disharmony during this time of unfortunate conflict.
However, on the next morning, a press statement of Charuangc Rigaan was found published in some local dailies which is entirely different from what was agreed upon the previous night, Henkhopao Haokip said, adding that he felt the exigency to issue the clarification in order to quell any further umbrage and resentment among the co-existing Rongmei and Kuki villages in and around Joujangtek village.
