Imphal, September 13 2023:
Asserting that mere existence of a state government cannot resolve the ongoing crisis, which has crossed four months, opposition MLA and former speaker Th Lokeshwar has urged BJP to take a decision for a joint delegation to the Centre stating that opposition is ready for the same.
Visiting a free medical camp organised for displaced people living in pre-fabricated houses in Sajiwa with full support from RIMS on Wednesday, the Congress MLA said that gunfights are continuing in different parts of the state and more lives are getting lost.
In such situation, mere existence of a state government does not make any sense.
The government should arrange a joint delegation of ruling and opposition to go to Delhi and meet Prime Minister to press him for an early solution to the crisis.
Commenting on the visit of ruling MLAs to Delhi, he said that there is no clarity on who is leading the team.
In the absence of the leadership of the chief minister, such delegation would not bring any positive result, he said.
He also said that the five Congress MLAs are ready to do whatever they could for resolving the crisis and restoring peace.
However, BJP needs to take a decision in this regard so that a joint delegation could visit the national capital and mount pressure to the Centre, he said.
The Khundrakpam MLA further said that common people are defending their villages and the territorial integrity of Manipur in the absence of a definitive measure from the government.
This is not the way of a responsible government.
It should come forward and use the state and central security forces to maintain peace while protecting the civilians from the persistent attack by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists using bombs and sophisticated weapons, he said.
He also asked the government to use its machineries to flush out the narco-terrorists effectively.
