Bodies for revision of compensation amount, end narco-terrorism

A meeting of victims of Kuki attacks organised by Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims, Moreh (COP-MeV), Churachandpur Meetei Ethnic Clash Victim Committee and Kha Maikei Kanba Lup (KMKL), Sugnu on Tuesday resolved that the amount of compensation fixed by the government of Manipur for the victims of the ethnic clash is insufficient particularly for the victims of Moreh, Churachandpur and Sugnu.
In a joint release, COPMeV chairman Leishangthem Inaocha, Churachandpur Committee president N Abung and KMKL, Sugnu secretary Kh Ratan said the meeting decided that the state government must review the amount of monetary compensation and conduct a more rational estimate on the victims' property loss and damages.
The bodies urged the government to help a team of representatives of the Moreh, Churachandpur and Sugnu victims to visit the said areas to witness, understand, identify and prepare list of the damages caused to their properties.
Meanwhile, Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) demanded that central government take immediate step to curtail narco-terrorism in Manipur to resolve the problems of political instability, terrorism, lack of institutional development hindering democratic development and ecological & environmental degradation.
Briefing the media at Press Club of India, New Delhi on Wednesday, DMCC convener Dr Seram Rojesh, co-conveners Biramani Sanasam and Lourembam Girija Devi, and publicity & media coordinator Soibam Ibohal Moirangcha urged for immediate stopping of armed aggression by Kuki militants on vulnerable sections of the society.
DMCC further called for protection of reserved and protected forests, destruction of all illegal poppy plantations in Manipur, prevention of cross border infiltration, and detection and deportation of illegal immigrants who are hiding with or without forged documents along with detection and confinement of refugees from Myanmar in designated shelters on humanitarian ground, abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO).
