Imphal, September 13 2023:
Meira Paibis of Wangoi, Samurou, Naorem, Oinam Sawombung, Wangoi Pangal, Khaidem Leiphrakpam, Iram Siphai, Yumnam Huidrom, Wangoi Kabui, Thiyam and Thongkhong Laxmi Bazar along with Youth Development Union Club staged sit-in protest at Wangoi Bazar on Wednesday demanding removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur.
The protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like 'No more trips to Delhi', 'call PM Modi here', 'Remove the infamous Assam Rifles from the soil of Manipur', 'Enough is enough, no more Kukis, no more AR', Our popular CM if you can't act let the people', etc.
Speaking in this regard, Wangoi Apunba Meira Paibi general secretary Sagolsem Asha alleged that Assam Rifles did not come to protect the people but to kill them as was evident when innocent civilians were killed and many left injured when they opened fire at Pallel.
They have been prolonging the conflict by siding with one of the conflicting community, she alleged, while demanding complete removal of Assam Rifles.
Urging the people's representatives not to remain silent, she cautioned that all the consequences shall be borne by them if they continue to remain silent.
