Kakching, September 13 2023:
The last rites of Yengkhom Jiten of Kakching Chumnang Leikai, who was killed in firing by Assam Rifles during a confrontation with civilian protestors on September 8 at Leimangai Chingjin near Pallel, will be conducted on Thursday at Kakching Chumnang Leikai Machin Manao Chinglak.
Informing this during a press meet at the premises of Library and Information Centre (LIC), Kakching on Wednesday, Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) chairman Yengkhom Bhagyachandra said that the decision for conducting the last rites was arrived at during a joint meeting of different organisations held at LIC Kakching on Wednesday.
The meeting was organised following the restrictions imposed by some organisations on the JAC from claiming the mortal remains of Jiten.
The meeting was attended by family members as well as representatives and leaders of the JAC, Kakching-based CSOs, Kakching Bazaar Business Welfare Association, Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup and TAKDAL.
After discussing the issue, the meet resolved to sort out differences and misunderstanding, to allow the family members to conduct the last rites, and to support the ongoing movement for safeguarding the territory of Manipur, and the demand removal of Assam Rifles from the state.
Consequently, the mortal remains of Yengkhom Jiten will be brought back to his home from JNIMS morgue on Thursday morning and will be buried at Kakching Chumnang Leikai Machin Manao Chinglak, he said.
He also appealed to the people of the state to offer tributes to Jiten on his way home.
Bhagyachandra also said that the meet expressed strong condemnation against unwanted remarks made against the victim's bereaved family and appealed to all concerned to refrain from commenting, which will hurt the sentiment of anybody.
