Kangpokpi, August 11 2026: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has warned that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Manipur could leave a significant number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) out of the voters' list unless authorities urgently address the documentation crisis arising from the ethnic conflict.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor of Manipur and the Chief Electoral Officer, the organisation said thousands of displaced people had lost their homes, belongings and crucial identity documents during the conflict, making it extremely difficult for them to comply with documentary requirements for voter verification.

KIM said the situation had created a serious risk of genuine and eligible voters being disenfranchised through no fault of their own, particularly as many IDPs remain away from their original places of residence.

Calling for immediate intervention, the organisation urged the authorities to extend the SIR deadline by an adequate and reasonable period, taking into account the "exceptional circumstances" prevailing in Manipur.

It called for effective safeguards to ensure that no genuine and eligible voter is struck off the electoral roll merely because circumstances beyond their control prevented them from producing the required documents.
