Dr Bimol urges MHA to review SoO

Imphal, August 11 2026: MP Dr Bimol Akoijam has raised the issue of Suspension of Operations (SoO) in the Parliament urging the Ministry of Home Affairs to review and abrogate it if the SoO groups are found to be involved in criminal activities.

Raising the issue under Rule 377, Dr Bimol cited cases of "rampant extortions" on the highways and the gruesome killing of six Liangmai Naga men, and the alleged involvement of SoO groups in the criminal activities.

He urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to comprehensively review the SoO agreement and abrogate the same if the groups are involved in the criminal activities.

Meanwhile, Dr Bimol said his question on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was removed in the question hour today even though he had written to the Speaker, Lok Sabha to include the question.

While the question was "declined" on the ground that it had sought information on "matters of past history", Dr Bimol's representation to the Speaker had argued that the question merely sought factual information presently available with the Government that are directly relevant to a contemporary public policy issue.

Dr Bimol is expected to raise issues related to renewed violence in the hills and the brutal killing of six Liangmai men in the remaining sessions of the Parliament.

Notably, the six Liangmai men were abducted on May 13 from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village, and their mutilated bodies were recovered on June 10 .
