Awareness programme on zero tillage cultivation of rapeseed-mustard held

A one-day training cum awareness programme on 'Zero tillage cultivation of Rapeseed Mustard in rice fallow of Manipur' was held today at Oinam Awang Leikai community hall.
The training cum awareness programme was organised by All India Coordination Research Project on Rapeseed Mustard, College of Agriculture Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal under the sponsorship of NEH Component of AICRP (Rapeseed-Mustard) Scheme, ICAR - Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Bharatpur, Rajasthan.
ICAR-DRMR, Bharatpur, Principal Scientist, Dr Bhagirath; CAU Imphal Director of Research, Dr LM Garnayak and COA, Iroisemba, CAU Imphal, Department of Entomology, Professor Kh Ibohal graced as the presidium members of the programme.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Bhagirath highlighted that there are a number of crops which can be cultivated in Manipur after paddy harvesting is done and the farmers should grow these crops to keep the fields green throughout the year.
Such a practice will help in generating a regular source of income, he added.
He maintained that Central agricultural University Imphal has been playing a vital role in helping the farmers to cultivate these crops and assured of providing required agricultural aids to them.
As resource persons of the programme, Professor Kh Ibohal delivered a lecture on the topic 'Insect-pests and incorporation of bee keeping in Rapeseed-Mustard and their management' while Scientist (Plant Breeding) AlCRP on Rapeseed-Mustard, COA, CAU, Imphal, Dr Pushparani Senjam spoke on the topic 'Importance of adopting cultivation of Rapeseed-Mustard in rice fallow in Manipur condition' .
To raise awareness among the farmers, Scientist (Agronomy) AICRP(R-M), COA, CAU, Imphal Dr Diana Shamurailatpam spoke in detail on the topic 'Package and practices for zero tillage cultivation of Rapeseed-Mustard in Rice Fallow' .
As a part of the programme, urea, tarpaulin, quality seeds, Bee Box and biopesticide were distributed to selected farmers of Bishnupur district.
