Imphal, November 01 2023:
Inmates of the relief camp opened at Akampat in Imphal East district staged a sit-in-protest against the attack on state police on Tuesday in Moreh in which police officer Chingtham Anandkumar was killed.
The inmates, mostly displaced people from Moreh, also raised posers to the government as to when they shall be allowed to return to their respective homes.
COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba, who took part in the protest, said that people from Moreh and Churachandpur are currently taking shelter at Akampat relief camp after Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists attacked them on May 3.None of the inmates of the relief camp are happy and they cannot remain as refugees in their own motherland, he said, adding that government must take steps to ensure return of the displaced people to their own homes.
According to Jeetendra, Tuesday's attack on a police team by Kuki militants in Moreh and casualties suffered by by state forces could have been averted had adequate state force been deployed in the border town.
It has been a long demand of the people to deploy more state forces in Moreh but government did not paid heed, he said and appealed to the government to work as per pulse of the people.
He also demanded the government to book and punish all those responsible for the killing of Chingtham Anandkumar.
