Imphal, November 01 2023:
Janata Dal - United (JD-U) Manipur spokesperson Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that the system failure of the state government caused the death of SDPO Anand and stressed the need for a massive operation to flush out armed militants by sending in adequate state security forces.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that the 10 opposition political parties strongly condemn the killing of SDPO Anand by Kuki militants in Moreh while overseeing a ground cleaning work for a proposed Helipad site.
His death is a big loss for the state and the 10 political parties share the grief and pain of the bereaved family, he said.
Despite the fact that he was killed by Kuki militants, it is the failure of the government that caused his death.
This is not about politics but a hard evidence of the failure of chief minister N Biren and his government.
Instead of taking up stringent measures to resolve the crisis and restore peace, the CM is busy inaugurating projects and laying foundation stones for new ones.
State security forces deployed in Moreh have been appealing for reinforcement for months but the government failed to respond effectively, which indirectly encouraged the Kuki militants to disregard law and order in the border town, he said.
Though they appreciate the forced entry of state security force into Moreh following the incident on Tuesday, it would have been much better had the government used such force earlier.
Despite repeated statements from both the Central and the state governments regarding involvement of foreign hands in the current conflict, the government is reluctant to send in state forces to Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Saikul areas and launch massive operation against the armed miscreants and anti-social elements, the former MLA contended.
He also took a jibe at the stoic silence being maintained by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the crisis in the state.
PM Modi, who is hyperactive in any kind of mishap or crisis in any other parts of the country and sent relief materials to Israel, is deliberately ignoring the situation in Manipur.
BJP state president is also making incoherent remarks, he observed while demanding the party to make public the letter sent to the party's central unit recommending action against the BJP MLAs who are demanding separate administration.
Dr Nimachand further demanded the government and BJP to spell out the reason for not sacking the Kuki ministers and MLAs who are demanding separate administration.
He also mentioned that a complaint letter written by veteran politician O Joy charging the 10 Kuki MLAs of violating the code of conduct of the state assembly is being process by the privilege committee of the state legislative assembly.
